The annual Verizon/Do The Right Thing “Back Without A Bang!” Youth Rally Against Violence took on a special meaning this year following the tragic school shootings plaguing our nation including Marjory Stoneman Douglas in February. During the rally held each September at Jungle Island, more than 500 City of Miami fifth grade students took a pledge against school violence and other forms of violence including domestic violence. The pledge was led by Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina and was followed by the ceremonial signing of a giant 4 foot by 8 foot pledge card which is mailed each year to Florida’s Governor. All students in attendance received an “I Took the Pledge” tee shirt color coded by school and a lanyard with a laminated copy of the pledge as well as tips if faced with a domestic violence situation. The students also enjoyed lunch and time exploring the park.

Special thanks, once again, to Verizon for sponsoring our event each year!
