OFFICER DO RIGHT™
Do The Right Thing of Miami, Inc. created the Officer Do Right™ initiative with the goal of promoting ongoing and consistent positive interactions between police officers and youths. This first-of-its-kind, grassroots concept is in response to the increasing violence in our community as well as the negative perception of police officers that is impacting our city and our country.

The Officer Do Right™ initiative is being implemented in elementary/K-8 schools and high schools (9th and 10th graders) in 20 zip codes throughout Miami-Dade County identified by Miami-Dade County Public Schools as “Students At Risk” areas.

OFFICER DO RIGHT™ ELEMENTARY/K-8 COMPONENT:
Officer Do Rights™ in the participating elementary/K-8 schools will visit their respective schools once a month to deliver prize incentives to up to 15 Do The Right Thing student nominees. During Officer Do Right’s™ visit, he/she will bring in Happy Meal lunches donated by local, participating McDonald’s franchise owners so student nominees can “Dine with Officer Do Right™,” and then award their prizes for doing the right thing. Officer Do Right™ will also be on the lookout for students doing the right thing and invite them to spin the Do The Right Thing prize wheel for special rewards such as McDonald’s Happy Meal Be Our Guest cards, bike safety lights, police-themed erasers, DTRT pencils, etc.

OFFICER DO RIGHT™ HIGH SCHOOL COMPONENT:
Officer Do Rights™ in the participating high schools will conduct Cop Stop Teen Training to students in the process of learning to drive with the goal of promoting positive encounters between teens and law enforcement during traffic stops and other interactions. The training includes a PowerPoint presentation and role play using various traffic stop scenarios. Each student who completes the training receives a wallet-sized laminated card with traffic stop tips.

HOW TO START AN OFFICER DO RIGHT™ INITIATIVE:
The Do The Right Thing Program plans to expand the Officer Do Right™ initiative to police departments on a local, state, and national level. The Officer Do Right™ initiative is trademarked and may not be implemented without the sole permission of the Do The Right Thing Program.

Miami-Dade County:
The Officer Do Right™ initiative must be implemented in Miami-Dade County in conjunction with Do The Right Thing of Miami, Inc.

Nationally:
Police agencies must first start a Do The Right Thing chapter in their community by paying the one-time $500 chapter fee. Additional fees for the Officer Do Right™ component will apply.

If your department is interested in bringing Officer Do Right™ to schools in your area, please contact the Do The Right Thing Program at 305-603-6957.
